We’re very glad to see the Government is intending to include trans people within the proposed conversion practices ban. Being LGBT+ is not a sickness and we do not need to be cured. An effective ban, which covers all the ways in which conversion practices affect our community, would be a huge step forward in protecting LGBT+ people in this country from this abuse. We strongly urge the Government to produce a draft Bill which addresses other key areas of concern, in particular any loopholes around consent and religious exemption.
We encourage the government to bring this vital piece of legislation to Parliament quickly, with no more delays. We work with victims and survivors who are experiencing conversion practices right now and our community deserves to be protected.
