AVA – Against Violence and Abuse – give training and information to help professionals understand how to support survivors of abuse. They have an e-learning course on their website about understand domestic violence and abuse – https://avaproject.org.uk/ava-training/elearning/. There is a small charge for the course, which supports the work of the organisation.

Although it’s aimed at professionals, it could be useful for someone who’s left an abusive situation and wants to understand more about what was happening. If you’re struggling to make sense of what happened, why it was so hard to leave or get help, and why at times you might have struggled to see what happened as ‘abuse’, this could help shed some light for you. You can also share it with family and friends, to help them understand more about what happened to you and give you the best support possible.

There are exercises you can work through, along with audio content from survivors and professionals. You can do it at your own pace, so there’s no need to complete it all.

If you take a look, let us know what you think. Has this helped you put together the pieces of what happened?
