Support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse and honour-based violence

This resource outlines LGBT+ people’s experiences of domestic abuse and lists ways Galop can help. This is the English version of all of our ‘other language’ domestic abuse resources.

Support for Victims and Survivors of Domestic Abuse and Honour Based Violence

Domestic abuse is any kind of behaviour, action, or abuse between people who have been intimate partners or a part of the same family. Domestic abuse can take many forms, including psychological, physical, sexual, financial, and emotional abuse. Whatever your experience, we are here to help, don’t suffer in silence.

Does your family member, partner or, ex-partner?

Hurt you? Force you get married?
Shout at you? Make other people hurt you?
Call you names? Call you the wrong gender?
Accuse you of cheating? Make you feel afraid?
Stop you from seeing your friends? Say bad things about your sexuality?
Control or monitor your daily activities? Prevent you from taking your medicine?
Damage your belongings? Use your children to control you?
Control or take away your money? Undermine you as a parent?
Stalk or harass you? Threaten to tell others about your sexual or gender identity?
Force you have to sex? Threaten to tell others about your HIV status?

Use your immigration status to control you?

If any of these are happening to you, you may be experiencing domestic abuse.
