Home for the holidays, but not safe

This winter, countless LGBT+ victims are returning to the homes where they face abuse and rejection – where their true selves were denied.

Please donate now so they don’t have to go through it alone.

Imagine the joy of the festive season, but instead of warmth, you’re met with rejection and abuse — just for being who you are. For many LGBT+ people, going home this winter means reliving that trauma, or worse, facing new threats of abuse.

Every winter, we’re flooded with calls from people desperate for help. Some need urgent support to escape violence, others are seeking safety and healing after the emotional toll of returning home.

Scared and afraid, their lives are at risk from their abusers or themselves.

You can be there for them, and break the cycle of trauma.

By donating to Galop, you can provide a lifeline to LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse. Your donation could offer emotional support, practical guidance, or even emergency housing for someone in immediate danger.

Your donation could mean the difference between fear and freedom. Stand with LGBT+ survivors and help provide specialised support through this difficult winter.

Donate today.

  • 35%

Increase in familial abuse during winter

We see a 35% increase in domestic violence referrals during the winter period. This shows the recurrence of abusive behaviours during this period, and the renewed abuse from family.

  • 121%

    Mental health

We’ve recorded a 121% rise in cases involving mental health needs or suicidal ideation when comparing winter 2022 to winter 2023. The stress of returning to abusive environments, coupled with isolation and financial pressures, significantly contributes to this rise.

  • 25

    Under 25s

Survivors under 25 face heightened risk during the festive period, including familial abuse remaining prevalent, conversion practices and homelessness.
