Galop’s statement on the proposed ban on so-called “conversion therapy” in the King’s Speech

We welcome the Government’s commitment to bring forward an inclusive ban on so-called “conversion therapy.” Galop has been working with conversion practices victims for years, and we see first-hand the long-term, or even lifelong, effects of this abuse.

With each day that passes without a conversion practices ban, our community is left at risk of a kind of abuse that only happens to us – one that tries to change, ‘cure’ or suppress gender identity or orientation.

We need this legislation to make sure victims, and those at risk, are protected from this abuse in the UK.

For anyone needing support, Galop’s National Conversion Therapy Helpline is open on 0800 999 5428, webchat at galop.org.uk, and via email on help@galop.org.uk.
